There were 4 versions of Yoda built for this movie. This "Radio Controlled Yoda" had a mechanism built by Special Effects technicians Ron Hone and Dennis Lowe. Parts from the original moulds and final assembly was done by Nick Maley with artwork by Graham Freeborn.

Nick made eyes for many of the cantina creatures. He foamed the warts that he glued on Greedo and made the tassled mohawk too. Greedo was one of many cantina creatures that Nick helped assimble in 1076.

The full sized Wampa was ten feet tall. The actor inside, (Des Webb) was 6' 10" tall. The design was masterminded by Stuart Freeboen who built the head. The body was made by Graham Freeborn and Nick Maley. Nick also designed the mechanism fot the extended arms.

Painted in 1997 when was being made. Nick Maley refers to this as a self portrait. He is a small figure (lower left) sitting in the Caribbean, receiving over half a million hits a week on his website in anticipation of Star Wars - A Phantom Menace being released. Thinking about the journey he made (represented by the over complicated X-wing) through the building of Yoda to the Caribbean (represented by the palm tree on the planet. There sailing his sailboat and swapping something complicated for something simple, (a spaceship for a sailboat). Upper right is an astronaught floating upside down. Nick says," The astronaught is a perfect icon for modern man. Adrift in the void, his principles are upside down, judging people by the size of their property, rather than the size of their hearts. It was that realization that helped me make this journey from Star Wars to Planet Paradise."
